Absolutely wonderful organisation, where the days are planned fully and the program is still flexible enough to incorporate other things you might want to do. Safety and security are first rate and reaching The Leap with questions is very easy. Having been a part of several programs with various organisations, I can safely say The Leap was by far the best and I would definitely go again!

Your Itinerary

What you'll do and where you'll go, from the day you arrive until you hop on a plane back home.
  • Day 1 Andros Island
You‘ll fly into Nassau airport and catch a little island hopper to Andros Island, the largest and least-explored island in The Bahamas. You’ll then head for the Southern coast to find your colourful beachside home just walking distance from the dive centre.
  • Day 2 PADI Dive Training
The first 3 weeks will be spent getting your scuba skills up to the advanced level required to participate on the research program. Our aim is for you to dive 5 days per week, 4 being survey related and one for fun. Our local team in Andros is an accredited PADI Educational Dive centre and all their instructors are fully PADI certified.
  • + Marine Science Training
Running parallel to the dive training and a key part of the program throughout is our Marine Science Training run by the scientists who organise the program. This takes place in the afternoons and evenings covering marine biodiversity, conservation, ecology, biology and data collection techniques.
  • + Staniard Creek Primary School
Once a week you can head down the beach to the local village where you’ll find the Staniard Creek Primary School. Here you’ll help teach the kids about the local fish (and their body parts!) and take them for swimming lessons in the sea.
  • Day 42 Bahamas National Trust Reef Survey
Once up to advanced scuba level, you’ll start working on the East Coast of Andros Island at Staniard Creek where we are working in partnership with the Bahamas National Trust to help survey the underwater environment of the Andros coastline with the aim of protecting the island against unplanned tourism.
  • Day 70 Andros Island
At the end you‘ll be escorted back to Andros for a final bit of sightseeing before heading home or onward travel.

Good news: registration for this program is still open
